Know the Tune

Privacy policy

Last updated September 27, 2026

Know the Tune is made by Sprung Interactive LLC ("we"), a Minnesota company. This policy covers the Know the Tune app on iOS, Android, and the web, and the website at knowthetune.com. The short version: we keep what the app needs to work, we do not sell it, we do not run advertising, and you can export or delete everything from inside the app.

What we collect

Account

Your email address and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the name and identifier those services share. We use Clerk to run sign-in; we never see or store a password because there is none.

Your repertoire

The songs you add, their ratings and the history of those ratings, practice notes, play history, tags, setlists and their notes, and the streaming services and instruments you choose in setup. This is the product; it is stored so it can sync between your devices.

Files you upload

Charts, recordings, and images you attach to a song are stored in Cloudflare R2, in a private bucket, under a path that belongs to your account. They are served only through short-lived signed links issued to you.

Purchases

If you subscribe to Pro, RevenueCat records the subscription against your account identifier and tells us whether it is active. Payment cards are handled by Apple, Google, or Stripe; we never receive card numbers.

Connected streaming accounts

If you connect Apple Music, Tidal, or YouTube to import a playlist, we store the access token those services issue so the import can run. You can disconnect at any time from the You tab, which deletes the token. We read the playlist you pick and nothing else.

Song lookups

When you add a song, the title and artist are sent to our server, which looks them up on iTunes, MusicBrainz, the Cover Art Archive, Songlink, and GetSongBPM to fill in art, year, key, tempo, and streaming links. The results are cached in a shared catalog that holds no information about who looked them up.

Technical data

Our servers keep standard request logs (IP address, time, endpoint, and status) for up to 30 days to keep the service running and to investigate abuse. The app records crash reports on the device only when the operating system offers them to us. We do not use analytics trackers or advertising identifiers.

Waitlist and email

If you join the waitlist on our website we keep the address you enter and where on the site you entered it. Email is sent through Postmark. Sign-in codes and receipts are transactional and cannot be turned off; anything optional carries an unsubscribe link.

How we use it

  • To run the app: sync your data between devices, look up song details, play and store your files, and honor your plan.
  • To send email you asked for: sign-in codes, a setlist someone shared with you, a receipt, or the one waitlist message.
  • To keep the service safe: rate limits, abuse investigation, and backups.
  • To improve the app using aggregate figures that identify nobody, such as how many songs an average account holds.

We do not sell personal data, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use it to train machine learning models.

Who processes it

These companies process data on our behalf, under their own agreements with us, only to provide the service:

Song lookups go to iTunes (Apple), MusicBrainz, the Cover Art Archive, Songlink, and GetSongBPM as described above. Embedded players from YouTube and Spotify load inside the app under those companies’ own privacy policies; the app shows an "Open in" link instead wherever you prefer not to load them.

Data is stored in the United States. If you use the app from elsewhere, you are sending your data here.

Retention and deletion

Your data stays as long as your account does. Delete account in the You tab cancels any web subscription, removes your files from storage, deletes every row that belongs to you, and deletes your sign-in identity, in that order. App Store and Google Play subscriptions are cancelled with Apple or Google; the app reminds you before deleting. Backups age out within 30 days. Server logs are kept for up to 30 days.

Your rights

You can see everything the app holds about you inside the app, export your songs as a CSV from the You tab, correct anything by editing it, and delete the account yourself. If you live somewhere with a data protection law (the EU, the UK, California, and others), you have rights to access, correct, delete, export, and object, and we honor them for everyone regardless of where they live. Write to support@knowthetune.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising these rights.

Children

Know the Tune is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, tell us and we will delete it.

Changes

When this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app and update the date at the top. Continuing to use the app after that date means you accept the new policy.
